The behaviour of destructive dog chewing seems to be a matter of what each dog prefers. Dogs are born with the desire to chew and many find it a pleasurable activity, and some dogs seem to have no need to chew at all unless they're bored or anxious.
A dog has very strong jaws that are full of sharp, pointy teeth so just about anything they chew on is probably going to show the effects pretty quickly. But when I say "destructive dog chewing", I'm referring to chewing that's focused on your stuff rather than the dog's toys and chews.
